How we rear our puppies

Where are our puppies born and reared?

Our puppies are born in our house and raised there until about 6 weeks old. We then put them in our front garden in a safe ‘puppy camp’.

At what age do we let our puppies go to their new homes?

We let our puppies go to their new homes from 8 weeks onwards. That way they have the benefit of their mum’s milk until then, which is very important for their health and growth.

OLDER THAN 8 WEEKS

People think that they need to get a puppy as young as possible to BOND with them. From the puppies’ side this is not true. Many of our puppies have gone to their new families at 4 MONTHS OLD AND OLDER and have fitted in immediately and bonded completely with members of their family. This is mostly due to the Kangal Dog’s very stable temperament. They are not nervous dogs by nature.

What food do we feed our kangal puppies?

“NATURAL FOOD IS BEST.”

This holds for all animals (and humans) and includes dogs.

That’s why we only feed all of our dogs and puppies mostly meat, bones and bone shavings.

Commercial dog pellets are NOT balanced and in particular lack vital minerals such as magnesium. They also contain toxins etc. harmful to dogs. It is VERY COMMON for especially large breed dogs (and now lions and cheetahs bred in captivity) to have BONE DEVELOPMENT PROBLEMS if they are fed commercial dog (and cat) food.

Kangal dogs are VERY big and so are their puppies, and so it is VITAL that they have enough bones and bone shavings to supply natural minerals (including magnesium). The faster puppies grow, the more minerals (bones and bone shavings) they need. We try to make this 50% of their food.
