about Kangals
There is a lot to say about Kangals
As said on our homepage, Julie and I have trained and rehomed thousands of dogs of all breeds, and we consider the Kangal dog breed to be UNIQUE because of their behaviour and because of their build. In comparing our own Kangals in South Africa with others around the world it has also amazed us how very CONSISTENT their characteristics are. Even when crossed with other breeds their genetic blueprint seems to dominate. We now believe that this is because they have existed almost unchanged for many thousands of years.
Here are some of the things we would like to share with you about the amazing Kangal dog.
What do Kangals look like?
Here is our Kangal boy Captain Carrot before he was fully grown. He is the one in the main photo half covered in mud and looking like a lion because the mud highlighted his mane! As you can see, Kangals are HUGE dogs and it feels as though you are walking next to a lion. They have a thick double coat with thicker hair around their necks and shoulders. Their tails are kinked at the tip and they can curl it tightly on top of their backs or wave it around in all sorts of shapes. Their ears hang but they can 'cock' them
